A Grand Lake Summer Tradition Returns: Spirit Polar Plunge Brings Community, Costumes, and a Good Cause to the Water
GRAND LAKE, CO — April 2026 — As summer returns to the mountains, so does one of Grand Lake’s most memorable community events—the Spirit Polar Plunge, hosted by Taking Steps for Cancer.
Part fundraiser, part costume-filled lake day, the Polar Plunge has become a local favorite—bringing together families, friends, and visitors for a day that’s equal parts fun and meaningful.
Set along the shoreline of Grand Lake, the event invites people to jump in, cheer from the dock, and enjoy a uniquely Colorado experience that keeps growing year after year.
A Mountain Town Event You’ll Want on Your Calendar
The Spirit Polar Plunge has started to feel like a tradition—something people come back to, bring friends to, and make part of their summer plans.
Participants can:
- Take the plunge into Grand Lake
- Join or create a team
- Dress up in fun, creative costumes
- Or simply come out to watch and be part of the energy
It’s the kind of event where you’ll see everything from superheroes to tutus—and plenty of laughter along the dock.
Not Jumping In? You’re Still In
For those who prefer to stay dry, there’s still a place in the fun.
Participants can register as a “Chicken” and:
- Join a team and fundraise
- Dress up and take part in the festivities
- Watch from the “Chicken Coop”, a lakeside viewing area
Not everyone is ready for 50-degree water—and they don’t have to be. The event is built so everyone can participate in their own way.
A Fun Day That Makes a Real Difference
While the event is lighthearted, the impact behind it is serious.
Funds raised support individuals and families facing cancer by helping cover everyday expenses like:
- Travel to treatment
- Lodging
- Meals
It’s a simple way for the community to come together and support people going through a difficult time.
