Here are the top stories in Denver today:

  1. The F-word will cost the City of Denver $128,000. Activists that were busted for using the F-word toward police agreed to settle their case against the Denver Police Department for $128,002. Over the past year, Denver taxpayers have paid over $1 million to peaceful protestors, and a lot more is in the legal pipeline stemming from the George Floyd protests. (Westword)
  2. Denver homeowners could be on the hook for as much as $1,000 for sidewalks. This November, Denver voters will get to decide if they want to publicly fund sidewalk construction by adding a fee that will force property owners to pay for sidewalks across the city instead of just their own. (7News)
  3. Businesses that survived the pandemic now struggle with increased rents and finding employees. If it's not one thing, then it's another. Businesses that made it through COVID-19 are finding the post-pandemic harder to recover from. (Your Web News)
  4. RTD appoints a new police chief. The Regional Transit District announced the selection of Dr. Joel Fitzgerald Sr. as the beleaguered transit agency's new top police official. Fitzgerald has more than three decades of law enforcement experience and has been a police chief in four cities. He's got a big job ahead of him trying to sort out what's been brewing across the district's transit system. (Denverite)
  5. Does a human poop in the woods? Parks and open space officials are asking the public to pack out their own poop — instead of leaving it in the parks. (CPR)
