Here are the top stories in Denver today:
- Proposed car-free housing community's developer suing over contract dispute. Plans appear to have fallen though for a new subdivision that would have banned homeowners from owning vehicles. The potential developer is suing the seller for millions of dollars after they allegedly didn't tell the buyer about an eminent domain action on the same land by Denver Public Schools. (Local Today)
- Denver's forgotten haunted mansion. Not just forgotten but torn down entirely. The Henry Treat Rogers House was built in 1892 as a "Federalist" style home near Cheesman Park. The home was constructed for Treat who was railroad tycoon and founded the Denver Country Club. The house's haunted history was the inspiration for the 1980 horror movie, "The Changeling." (Westword)
- Colorado has fallen behind on air quality and monitoring air pollution. Advocates across the state are calling on Gov. Jared Polis to "go further, faster" in an effort to combat climate change and the states severe air quality issues. (CO Newsline)
- Despite the Denver Zoo's best efforts, several of their birds test positive for avian bird flu. Caretakers at the Denver Zoo have been keeping a watchful eye on their birds since the avian bird flu started spreading earlier this year, but the zoo is now reporting that two birds have tested positive and are taking additional steps to protect other susceptible birds. (9News)
- Colorado ramping up plan to deal with housing and homelessness. Colorado is planning to pour $650 million into homelessness over the next year by using funds from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. Nearly two-thirds will go toward housing and the rest will fund homeless services campuses. It's a big number going into a problem that needs a lot more zeroes attached to it. (News Break)
