Colorado Muslim Group Condemns NYC Terrorist Incident

CENTENNIAL, CO -- Members of the Colorado chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CO) condemned the Oct. 31 deadly truck attack on the West Side Highway bike path in Manhattan. New York law enforcement officials said the driver, Sayfullo Saipov, 29, claimed to be a follower of ISIS and allegedly shouted "Allahu Akbar!" — which means "God is great!" in Arabic, before being shot in the abdomen by NYPD patrol officers.

"CAIR-CO categorically condemns today’s horrific and cowardly attack on our fellow Americans in New York City and offers sincere condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured,” said CAIR-CO Board Chair, Farid Amin in a statement. “We are aware that the goal of such heinous crimes is to divide our nation; therefore, it is incumbent on Americans of all faiths and backgrounds to frustrate that evil objective by standing united in the face of terror."

Krista Cole, CAIR-Co vice-Chair added: "Like all Coloradoans, we mourn those who died today, and our sincere thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends they leave behind. In the wake of this tragedy, we know that Coloradoans will not only show that we are resilient in the face of such attacks, but we will prove that our love and compassion are stronger than anyone who seeks to divide us.”

CAIR is a Muslim civil liberties organization.

A statement from Silver Springs Maryland-based Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, which calls itself the nation's oldest Muslim organization also condemned the attack.

"We mourn the lives lost in New York City and stand in solidarity with our fellow Americans," said Spokesperson Salaam Bhatti.
