Denver Coronavirus Update: 328 New Cases, Death Toll Hits 367

DENVER — Over the past week, 328 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Denver, according to the latest government data. The previous week, 236 cases were reported, so the data shows a surge of new cases.

As of Tuesday, 6,663 people had been infected with the new coronavirus in the city since the outbreak began. The city's death toll has reached 367.

Under the statewide Safer at Home: New Guidelines phase, counties that have seen a downward trend of cases and that prove they have a solid plan for combating the virus can apply to expand some services.

Denver's latest variance request to portions of the new order has been approved by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The approval applies to museums, Four Mile Park, restaurants, the Cherry Creek Mall, gyms, recreation centers, indoor pools and horse competitions at the National Western Complex. Variance locations cannot exceed 50 people gathered in a room or "confined indoor space" at any given time, and not exceed 125 people in an outdoor space.

Approved variances for Denver:

• Museums can operate at 50 percent occupancy with up to 50 people per room and not to exceed 125 people in an outdoor space. Museums can open under this variance after submitting their reopening plan to the city for review and approval.
• Restaurants can operate at 50 percent occupancy with up to 50 people in a confined indoor space (which differs from the previous Safer at Home statewide limitation of 50 people for the entire restaurant)
• The Cherry Creek Mall can open the indoor mall, and stores within Cherry Creek Mall can operate at 50 percent occupancy
• Gyms, recreation centers and indoor pools can operate at 50 percent occupancy with up to 50 people in a confined space
• Horse competitions at the National Western Complex can occur with activities limited to 50 people and no spectator shows

Denver, Arapahoe and Weld counties consistently have the highest overall number of cases in the state; however over the past two weeks, Weld, Summit and Adams counties have had the highest case rates per 100,000 people.

As of Monday, 30,705 people have been infected with the coronavirus in Colorado among 285,130 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Around 5,343 people have been hospitalized, and the death toll among people who tested positive for COVID-19 has reached 1,651.
