Denver One-Man Shooting Spree Pleads Guilty To Two Murders

Kenneth Banks entered a guilty plea to two shooting murders in Nov., 2015. He was also sought by Adams Co. officials for Aurora homicide.

DENVER, CO -- Kenneth Banks, 21, was a one-man shooting spree, killing at least three people in Nov. 2015, and may have been motivated by gang politics, said the Denver District Atty's office. Banks entered a guilty plea Monday in two Denver shooting deaths. He was immediately sentenced to two life sentences without possibility of parole, to be served concurrently, the DA's office said.

Police said Banks shot and killed 20-year-old Joel Gomez-Chavez as the victim was in his bedroom at his home in the 3300 block of N. Dahlia Street on Nov. 20, 2015. Banks was charged with one count of first-degree murder in December, 2016.

Banks also pleaded guilty to the drive-by shooting death Nov. 23, 2015, of 20-year-old D’Andre Mayfield at 47th Avenue and Peoria Street as Mayfield sat in his vehicle. Banks was charged with one count of first-degree murder in March, 2016.

Banks was also sought by the Aurora police for a second shooting on Nov. 20, 2015 outside the Montview Bar and Grill, a blue-collar bar near the intersection of East Montview Boulevard and North Nome Street. A man and a woman were shot, and the man brought them both to a hospital, but Fallon Graham, 34, a mother, was declared dead that night.

"The shooting murders are believed to be gang-related," the Denver DA's statement said.
