Colfax Shootout: Man Killed By Denver Police Identified
A 29-year-old man was shot and later died in a gun fight with police on East Colfax Avenue after allegedly robbing a 7-Eleven.

DENVER, CO โ The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified that man killed in a shootout on East Colfax Avenue that wounded a Denver police officer and two bystanders Wednesday evening.
Camell Nelson, 29, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center after being shot by a patrol officer. He was later pronounced dead. The cause of death was reported as a gunshot wound.
Around 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, two Denver bike patrol officers were told by a bystander that a man had allegedly just robbed a 7-Eleven in the 500 block of East Colfax Avenue, Denver Police Chief Robert White told reporters in a press conference Wednesday night. One of the patrol officers confronted Nelson, and the two exchanged gunfire near Colfax and Washington Street, White said. The officer was hit by gunfire in the leg, but received medical attention and was then released. The other two bystanders were also struck by gunfire. Police did not give an update on their status.

In Denver, officer-involved shootings are investigated by the Aurora Police Department and the District Attorney's office, at which point an internal investigation and policy review takes place with DPD.
