GOLDEN, CO — A sergeant with the Denver Police Department is facing charges after authorities say he made sexually explicit advances toward a 14-year-old girl online, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department announced Wednesday.

According to authorities, Timothy Hyatt, 45, used multiple social media platforms and several online identities to communicate with the girl. Authorities said Hyatt also made sexually explicit advances toward her.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office started an investigation into Hyatt in February and was eventually able to confirm Hyatt was behind the advances, authorities said in a release.

Hyatt turned himself in Wednesday, authorities said.

Hyatt’s first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday. He faces charges of internet luring of a child.
