Denver Police Shootout: 1 Dead After Gunfire Exchanged On Colfax
A man was killed during a police shootout that injured the officer and 2 bystanders after a 7-Eleven robbery, police said.

DENVER, CO โ A man was killed and three people, including a Denver police officer, were injured by gunfire on Colfax Avenue Wednesday evening as police confronted a man who had allegedly just robbed a 7-Eleven. The officer was shot in the leg and the suspect was inured and later died, police said. Two bystanders were also injured in the gunfire on a busy intersection around 7:55 p.m.
The incident happened in the 500 block of Colfax Avenue when two officers on bike patrol were flagged down by a bystander who told them a man had just robbed the 7-Eleven, Denver Police Chief Robert White said at a news conference. The suspect and one of the officers exchanged fire, injuring two bystanders in the process, White said.
The officer was later released from the hospital, but the suspect died of his injuries, police said. Police did not release the name of the suspect or the officer.

In Denver, officer-involved shootings are investigated by the Aurora Police Department and the District Attorney's office, at which point an internal investigation and policy review takes place with DPD.
