Denver Safer At Home: Which City Services Are Open, Closed

DENVER, CO — Denver's stay-at-home order ended Friday, and the city is now under the statewide safer-at-home guidelines. Several city agencies have provided service updates on new operating procedures.

Denver Motor Vehicle, Denver Public Library, city recreation centers, the Taxpayer Service Center, building and zoning permitting, Denver Workforce Services and Denver Human Services locations remain closed to in-person visits, with many services available online or over the phone.

Denver Animal Shelter: Shelter adoptions have resumed under the new guidelines. In shelter adoptions will be available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and virtual adoptions will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. To adopt in-person at the shelter, call 720-337-1810 upon your arrival at the shelter. A maximum of two to three groups, with no more than two people per group, will be allowed in the building at a time. A face covering and social distancing will be required. For virtual adoptions, contact 720-337-1817. 

Assessor's Office: The office will accept walk-ins from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Wellington E. Webb Building. The office will serve the public onsite with questions about property assessments and assessment appeals. Most transactions can be accomplished online by visiting the assessor’s office website.

Denver City Council: Regular Monday meetings of Denver City Council and required public hearings continue to take place in person.  Meetings with city council members are by appointment only.

Excise and licenses: In an effort to protect public safety, in-person customer service will be offered by appointments only. Appointments can be made here. Same day appointments, if available, can be made by calling 720-788-4318. Visit the email application process page for more information on submitting email business license applications. Excise and licenses will not offer fingerprinting services on site. The website  offers information on fingerprinting services authorized by Colorado Applicant Background Services.

Vehicle impound facility: The facility will return to normal business hours: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Regional Transportation District: RTD continues to operate on a service reduction plan, and fare collection is suspended on all services. Capacity is limited to around 15 passengers per bus, 20 on larger buses and 30 riders per rail car. If you are unable to maintain social distancing, do not board and wait for the next vehicle, officials said. Masks are required for riders and those waiting at bus and train stops.
