Denver Sheriff Seeks New Deputies For June Academy
60 qualified candidates are being sought for the June, 2018 Academy class for the Denver Co. Sheriff's Dept.
DENVER, CO -- The Denver Co. Sheriff's office is seeking 60 candidates for the department's June, 2018 academy. Denver sheriff's deputies earn between $56,335.00 - $78,501.00 annually and have full health benefits and tuition rebates at Colorado Technical University.
A number of law enforcement agencies around the state are competing for the best candidates. Denver County, run by Sheriff Patrick Firman, is the largest county sheriff department in Colorado with more than 1,000 employees who work in two jails, provide security for the district and county court systems and transport inmates, as well as perform extradition duties and make up fugitive and K-9 units. Staffers also work at a work release facility, and provide security at Denver Health Medical Center, according to the department.
Candidates must have at least a GED or high school diploma and may not have used recreational marijuana in the past three years. Recruits must possess a physical fitness level "comparable to the average adult of the same gender and age group."
Successful candidates complete a 17-20 week Recruit Training Academy covering physical fitness, inmate management, firearms, emergency driving and report writing.
