Denver Sports-Themed Charter School Denied By State Board Of Ed
The board denied an appeal from Miami-based Sports Leadership and Management Academy (SLAM), founded by rapper Pitbull.

DENVER, CO -- Third strike and they're out. At its most recent meeting, the Colorado Board of Education denied an appeal of a Miami-based sports-oriented charter school company, founded by rapper Pitbull. Sports Leadership and Management Academy (SLAM), hoped to open Fall 2018 in northeast Denver. The Denver Board of Education twice denied the K-12 charter school’s application, saying the application wasn't complete and didn't meet standards set forth in DPS Supt. Tom Boasberg's call for proposals for new schools, both charter and neighborhood-based.
The SLAM school program "deliver[s] a sports-integrated education" and "prepar[e] students for careers in sports leadership and management," according to its website. Pitbull runs five charter school in south Florida and recently welcomed US Dept. of Education Head Betsy DeVos to tour one.
