East HS Athlete To Be Remembered At Denver Vigil

Family and friends will remember former East HS football player Reese Grant-Cobb who was fatally stabbed Sunday.

DENVER, CO – Family and friends of slain East HS athlete Reese Grant-Cobb will gather for a memorial vigil Friday at the East High School football field, his mother told a local Denver TV station.

Grant-Cobb, 17, died after being attacked and stabbed Sunday near the Bourbon Gill near Capitol Hill. Police took one juvenile into custody and are searching for two more men, possibly juveniles, captured on nearby video surveillancecameras, who may be connected to the crime.

The East HS football team will hold a memorial vigil for Grant-Cobb Friday at 8 p.m. at the East football field, his mother Beverly Grant told CBS Denver 4. The address is 1600 City Park Esplanade, Denver (see map).

Grant-Cobb played both football and basketball for East. He had just graduated from Denver School of Science and Technology and was headed to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley where he planned to study Biomedical Engineering, according to a GoFundMe site posted by family friends. Family members had raised $7,500 as of Friday to help pay for funeral expenses.

Although Grant-Cobb was over 6 feet tall, he was remembered as an athlete with a "big heart," his relatives told CBS. He was brother to two siblings.

Beverly Grant asked anyone with information about the possible suspects in Grant-Cobb's death to contact police.

Police released the photos below of two young men sought in connection with the stabbing which took place in the 500 block of Colfax Avenue around 11:15 p.m. Sunday, July 2.
