Food Bank of the Rockies and Humana Partner to Host Food Drive

"March Out Hunger" Food and Fund Drive Will Benefit Military Veterans, Oct. 19 - Nov. 11.

One in five households served by a local food bank has at least one member who has served in the U.S. military. To make an impact, Humana, a leading health and well-being company, and Food Bank of the Rockies have partnered on a food and fund drive benefitting military veterans from Oct. 19 to Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

As part of the “March Out Hunger” campaign, non-perishable food will be collected at the following locations in the Denver community:

In addition to food donations, members of the community can provide monetary donations to this food drive. Every $10 donation helps Food Bank of the Rockies provide 40 meals. Donations can be made at: http://fbr.convio.net/goto/humanafooddrive

The food drive will kick off on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon where the community is invited to participate in a Ruck March during the 5K. In the military, soldiers carry a heavily-loaded rucksack, similar to a backpack, over a long distance. To bring awareness to food insecurity among our military and veterans community, participants will bring packs filled with non-perishable food donations and march the 5K route, delivering the food to Food Bank of the Rockies at the finish line. Those interested in marching can call (720) 620-6693 for details.

Last year, Humana partnered with Feeding America – the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States – to stage a series of events that drove food donations and raised awareness of food insecurity with a focus on helping veterans. Food Bank of the Rockies is part of Feeding America’s network of food banks.
