Hundreds Gather To Honor Juneteenth In Denver: Photos

Civil rights leaders and community members gathered in Denver to commemorate the end of slavery and call for continued action.

DENVER, CO — Hundreds of people gathered outside the Martin Luther King Memorial in Denver's City Park Friday morning and then marched to the Colorado State Capitol for a rally in commemoration of Juneteenth. Many civil rights activists and community leaders spoke at the gathering about the fight for equality and justice.

The demonstration outside the Capitol was held after Gov. Jared Polis signed Senate Bill 217, which will increase police accountability and transparency in Colorado. While community leaders commended the actions taken, they said there's much more to be done.

Juneteenth, a holiday that's 155 years old this year, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
