DENVER, CO β€” It takes the average person 2.7 hours of work to afford to see a Rockies game, according to a recent report by The Cost Guys. But we have it pretty good here in Colorado β€” you'll have to work a lot longer to support the Cleveland Indians or Chicago Cubs.

As a matter of fact, the Rockies are the second cheapest team to be a fan of in Major League Baseball, beat out only by the Baltimore Orioles.

To find out how many hours of work it takes to bring your family to a baseball game, The Cost Guys data and analytics team took the average cost of purchasing four tickets to a game, with four drinks and four hot dogs. The analysts then took that total cost and divided it by the average hourly salary for the metropolitan statistical area the baseball team belongs to.

  • Median income: $76,643
  • Cost of four tickets: $64.88
  • Concession cost: $34
  • Hours to work for tickets: 2.7

The Cleveland Indians took the top spot in the Least Affordable MLB Teams, followed closely by the Chicago Cubs.

The Cleveland area has the lowest median income of any MLB team MSA β€”it takes the median family there 6.4 hours of working to afford a game for four, according to the report. This is a similar issue for the Tampa Bay Rays and Houston Astros. On the other hand, cities with higher incomes, such as New York and Boston, are expensive because the tickets themselves are expensive. Four tickets to a Red Sox game cost the most of any baseball team in the league, analysts said.
