Driver Charged After Fatal Denver DUI Crash: Police

A woman died and three people were seriously injured in a late-night crash on Tower Road, police said.

DENVER, CO -- UPDATE: Vehicular homicide charges and other felony counts against Karla Arellano, 25, were dropped by the Denver District Attorney's office on July 11. Prosecutors charged Jose Quinones, 26, on June 15 with six counts including vehicular homicide, DUI for a northeast Denver crashed that killed a passenger and injured two people in Arellano's car and Quinones.

Karla Arellano was charged with several misdemeanor counts including careless driving resulting in death, one count of careless driving resulting in injury and not having a driver's license, the district attorney's office said.

Karla Arellano, 25, was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault-DUI, no driver's license and failure-to-yield in a crash that killed her passenger and injured two others, the Denver District Attorney's office said.

Arellano was at the wheel May 11 driving south on Tower Road at East 43rd Avenue when she turned in front of a north-bound vehicle, resulting in a car crash, the Denver District Attorney's office said. The crash killed one passenger in Arellano's car and injured another. The driver of the other vehicle was also seriously injured.

Police found open liquor bottles in Arellano's car and she told an officer she had consumed three Corona beers earlier, according to an arrest affidavit.

Arellano is next scheduled to appear in court May 31.
