Truck Driver Hits Student In Wheelchair In Thornton, Takes Off

Police are asking for help looking for the driver of a black Ford pick-up, which struck a child headed to school in his wheelchair.

THORNTON, Colo. (CBS4) – Thornton Police are asking for help looking for the driver of a black Ford pick-up, which struck a child headed to school in his electric wheel chair. Police say it happened just before 8 a.m. Tuesday. The child was headed to school at York International and was southbound on York, against oncoming traffic.

Witnesses told police he was traveling near the 9300 block of York, when the truck turned north from 93rd Place. That’s when it sideswiped the wheel chair, knocking the student to the ground causing injury and damaging the wheel chair. The black truck continued north on York Street leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
