The City of Aurora worked with fire and police and students from Rangeview High School to depict a fatal DUI crash and all its repercussions

AURORA, CO -- Aurora's Rangeview High School students entering prom season got a sobering look at the world of emergency responders when a fatal car accident occurs "Every 15 Seconds."

A video created by Aurora TV starred real Aurora fire and police personnel and students from the Rangeview High School drama department.

The title reflects the frequency of fatal auto crashes caused by impaired driving in the U.S.

The video shows what happens in every step of a fatal car accident, from the air-lifting, to an ambulance ride, to emergency surgery, to a court appearance for the impaired driver.

"Our mission here is to educate our youth not only on drinking and driving, but texting and driving and aggressive driving," said Aurora police Lt. Jan Lanigan.

Scenes starring their friends were filmed in front of a group of students, causing "a few tears," one student said.

As prom season approaches, it's hoped that watching the aftermath of a deadly auto accident will help students think twice, said Ryan Hill of the Rangview drama department.

"We really think that this one makes it hit home, it really makes it real for the students because they were sitting right there," Hill said. "They were sitting 20 feet away from one of their classmates being loaded into the coroner van. If that brings out one moment of clarity, I think it was a success."
