Good morning, friends! Brad K. Evans here with your fresh copy of the Denver Daily. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about what's happening in our community, including updates on:

  • After years of rent increases, metro Denver sees a slight decline: $8, barely enough for a hot beverage at a unionized coffee shop.
  • Daddy Bruce Feed-A-Family event continues despite increased food costs.
  • Denver Auditor says Denver's recycling program is doomed.

Saturday's weather: Mostly sunny and cold. High: 41 Low: 24.

Here are the top stories in Denver today:

  1. Removing grass lawns probably won't solve the west's water problems. Never-the-less regional governments in states like California, Arizona and Nevada are racing to ban the green stuff. Experts indicate that "no level of municipal conservation... [will] make up for the water that's going to be needed to be conserved." (Fortune)
  2. Metro area rents go down by $8 bucks. It may not seem like much, but it's a welcome reprieve after nearly a decade of prices going up, up, up. (FOX31)
  3. Denver Auditor report says that the city's recycling program is headed for disaster. The City's Auditor said that staffing gaps, an aging truck fleet and a new composting program will cause more problems as the city rolls out its new pay-as-you-throw waste plan. (CO Sun)
  4. Inflation hits Daddy Bruce's Thanksgiving Feed-A-Family event. Despite increased food costs, the long-time Thanksgiving tradition will continue this year feeding those in the community. (Denverite)
  5. Fire in the basement of the Brown Palace. Thursday night a fire broke out in the basement in the 130 year-old hotel, and firefighters had to break through an old chimney to get to it. DFD reports that the fire was quickly contained. (9News)
