Ruby Hill Rail Yard Open Until February

From The City of Denver: Marking the start of its twelfth year, the Ruby Hill Rail Yard is now officially open for the 2018 Season. The rail yard is available to both snowboarders and skiers and is absolutely free. The Ruby Hill Rail Yard features over ten rails and boxes of varying configurations and skill level. Weather permitting, the rail yard will be open until the end of February.

The recent cold weather delivered the perfect mix of conditions to start preparing the Ruby Hill Rail Yard for the 2018 season. Volunteers from Denver Parks and Winter Park Resort began making snow earlier this month, bringing the excitement and energy of skiing and snowboarding to the Denver urban park.

“The rail yard at Ruby Hill would not be possible without the support from our partners at Winter Park Resort,” said Happy Haynes, Executive Director of Denver Parks and Recreation. “This annual program gives our residents and visitors, especially kids, a means to stay active outside during the winter while also enjoying the fun experience of skiing and snowboarding in the city.

The Ruby Hill Rail Yard was created in 2007 in a joint effort between Denver Parks and Recreation and Winter Park Resort to offer a winter sport experience in an urban setting. Winter Park provides the rails, terrain park design and staff; and Denver Parks and Recreation provides the location and management. More than 25 volunteers work tirelessly each season to help make the rail yard possible.

Ruby Hill Park is located off of South Platte River Drive and West Florida Avenue. The rail yard is open every day during regular park hours from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and is lighted every day from dusk until 9 p.m.
