School Up-Skirt Videos: $5K Bond For Castle Rock Charter Staffer

Police arrested Steven Michael Jenkins, 55, after videos of Renaissance Secondary students' underwear and buttocks were found on his phone.

CASTLE ROCK, CO -- A judge on Monday ordered a fired staffer at a Castle Rock charter school facing sexual exploitation of a child charges to stay away from juveniles and told him he could not use the internet without supervision. Police arrested Steven Michael Jenkins, 55, Friday after "up-skirt" videos of women's underwear and buttocks were found on his phone, including at least three videos of juvenile students at Renaissance Secondary School where he worked. Jenkins was released on $5,000 bond.

Castle Rock police were contacted by the principal of the school Dec. 3 who told them a staffer was "using their phone inappropriately." According to an arrest affidavit, two male students independently reported the behavior of Jenkins, who served as an "instructional coach" and had worked for five years at Castle View High School prior. He had been a teacher for 29 years, Denver Channel 7 reported.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a Castle Rock Officer visited the school and initially told Jenkins that some threatening text messages had been sent from his phone. Jenkins signed a form giving the officer permission to search the phone, according to the affidavit. The officer reportedly asked to look at videos on the phone, and noted that "there were a lot of strange angles" in videos. Jenkins initially blamed his poor camera skills, but then “suddenly reached for the phone and attempted to take it” when the officer started to play a video. Jenkins initially said the videos were "of his wife," then of his ex-wife. Jenkins then admitted that they were videos of female buttocks and underwear shot secretly from underneath. He called the videos "a sexual thing."

Police seized Jenkins’ phone and his school-issued computer. Police found more than 20 videos taken from under the skirts of 10 adult women and three juvenile girls at the school. Videos showed buttocks and underwear of one girl and buttocks of another, the report said.

The school told Castle Rock police Jenkins had been fired.

Outside of court Monday, Jenkins's attorney David Beller said, “I think it’s so early right now to know exactly what the evidence is that I am really not in a position to be speculating on it."

Jenkins's next hearing date is Dec. 14.
