Here are the top stories today in Denver:
- Denver School District is having a snow day, but without all the snow that was predicted. All Denver Public Schools and offices, including Emily Griffith Technical College, are closed. This includes no clubs, sports, or classes for students and no child care for working adults. (Denverite)
- If you're flying out of DIA today, make sure you check your flight's status before heading to the airport. Denver International Airport is suggesting that passengers to check the status of their flights on Wednesday morning, as the winter storm hits could impact airport operations. (CBS4)
- Gov. Jared Polis talks about Colorado's future in his annual State of the State speech. Gov. Polis delivered his speech yesterday and outlined his priorities for his new term. One of the main focuses of his plans is to reduce the cost of living for residents of Colorado. There's been a significant increase in housing prices over the past decade, making it the second most unaffordable state in the U.S. (FOX31)
- So far, Denver's requirement to register rental properties isn't going so well. Less than 2,000 of the 25,000 multi-unit residential rental properties have been approved by the City of Denver. Landlords that own multi-unit buildings and haven't registered could pay fines for not registering their properties in the coming months. (Denverite)
- The very long list of candidates for Denver Mayor. So far, 27 candidates have filed for the race to be Denver's next mayor and two of those have already dropped out. The next hurdle for candidates is getting their names on the ballot – which requires submitting 300 valid signatures by Jan. 19. As of Tuesday, only 14 candidates had submitted their petitions for review. (CO Newsline)
