Here are the top stories today in Denver:

  1. State of Colorado issues Suncor permit. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has determined that the oil refinery in Commerce City can continue operating, with more strict air pollution monitoring. Community activists vow to keep fighting. (CO Sun)
  2. Denver closed streets during the pandemic, but reopened them without first asking the community what they wanted. Barricaded streets were hugely popular during the pandemic, but the streets have been given back to cars, and the city doesn't know how it will ever claw back that space for the kind of pedestrian and bicycle use that was happening in 2020-21. (Denverite)
  3. Mold on walls inside Denver apartment building has residents worried. Fearing black mold has residents seeking a solution to the problem since the landlord hasn't taken care of the problem. (FOX31)
  4. Shorter winter seasons mean lower reservoir levels. A recent study indicates that that climate change is impacting the amount of snowfall in the winter, and that's impacting high country reservoirs that collect the melted snow. (9News)
  5. Some Denver schools don't have air conditioning. Students are back in school, but in 48 schools there's still no AC cooling the class rooms. In 2020, Denver voters passed a $795 bond that included installing air conditioning at 24 DPS schools, but so far, only 5 have been completed. Leaving some students to learn in hot classrooms.
