Here are the top stories today in Denver:

  1. Denver's traffic deaths in 2022 are expected to exceed last year's record. Denver's Vision Zero program has been in place since 2017, and since then, almost every year the number of traffic-related deaths have increased. 2022 deaths on Denver's streets are expected to once again be at an all-time record high. (Denverite)
  2. Man captured after he allegedly firing several shots at Lakewood police. Richard Lee Arellano had apparently stolen merchandise from the Walmart located at 7455 W. Colfax Avenue, when police approached the suspect, he pulled out a gun and fired several shots at them. (FOX31)
  3. Fentanyl deaths continue to overwhelm Arapahoe County's Coroner's office. The ongoing fatal overdoses have been supercharged by fentanyl and is wreaking havoc up and down the Front Range. The impacts on county medical examiners have been totally missed. (Westword)
  4. Prodigy Coffeehouse in Globeville opens as a place for the community to connect. The nonprofit social enterprise includes a program that employs local young adults and they've recently opened their second location in Globeville. (Denverite)
  5. Vail Resorts claims there's more to town's opposition to affordable housing project. The town of Vail has been fighting against a proposed employee housing project by Vail Resorts. Resort officials said that the town's opposition "is less about protecting wildlife, and more about preventing affordable housing near the luxury homeowners." (Outthere)
