Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Metro Denver

DENVER, CO — Weather officials in Denver and Boulder issued a Winter Weather Advisory, which remains in effect from 3 a.m. Saturday until midnight. A storm is developing across southern Colorado and travel in and around Denver's metro area and Boulder County could become difficult.

"This is a complex scenario for weather, and the track of this storm is still uncertain," a National Weather Service warning read. "There will be a period of snow and sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain."

Up to five inches of snow could fall across Denver's western suburbs and Boulder. Winds could gust up to 40 mph Saturday.

"Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could reduce visibility," the alert read.

The advisory was issued for the following cities: Arvada, Boulder, Golden, Lakewood, Longmont, Aurora, Brighton, City of Denver, Denver International Airport, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Parker,
Eaton, Fort Lupton, Greeley and Roggen.

After a "lull" in precipitation overnight, more snowfall is expected on the eastern plains and Palmer divide through Saturday evening, weather officials said.

"Strong northerly winds are expected on Saturday with widespread blowing snow and poor visibilities," the alert read. "Near blizzard conditions will be possible depending on the amount of snowfall."

Winter Weather Advisories have also been issued for Pueblo, Grand Junction and Castle Rock.

"Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility," officials said.

Up to eight inches of snow is expected in Castle Rock, and winds could gust up to 45 mph.
