A Wheat Ridge 86-year-old driver, his 96-year-old passenger and another person were killed in a wrong-way crash.

DENVER, CO -- An 86-year-old wrong-way driver on I-70 caused a two-vehicle crash Christmas Day that killed three people, Colorado State Patrol said. A Dodge Caravan struck a Dodge pickup truck around 7:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Tower Road.

Gerald Arnett, 86, of Wheat Ridge drove a 2003 Dodge Caravan the wrong direction in the eastbound lane when it struck a 2001 dodge pickup driven by a 24-year-old Stasburg man, who was in the correct lane, said Trooper Josh Lewis of CSP.

Arnett and his passenger, Betty Arnett, 96, of Wheat Ridge were killed. Also killed was pickup passenger Katie Paul, 24, of Strasburg, who was the only person involved in the crash who was not wearing a seatbelt, CSP reported. The male driver of the pickup was transported to University of Colorado Hospital with serious injuries, CSP reported.
