ArtsWeek Golden Begins With Yarn Bombing

GOLDEN, CO – Golden's Foothills Art Center celebrates 50 years since a group of artists renovated the historic First Presbyterian Church into what has become a thriving regional arts center.

This year, Foothills Art Center kicks off ArtsWeek Golden, a 168-hour gathering of more than 100 national artists exhibiting their works on the Colorado School of Mines campus in Golden.

The week-long festival throughout the city of Golden has already begun with yarn-bombing of Golden sculptures by the Ladies Fancywork Society. Check out the parking spots along Washington Avenue which are being converted into "pop-up" parking space art studios.

Activities culminate in a weekend ARTSWEEK GOLDEN FESTIVAL, a juried arts contest and sale with more than 100 artists from around the country exhibiting their work in a beautiful setting on the School of Mines campus.

“This year marks the 50th anniversary of Foothills Art Center and a new era for art in Golden,” said
Hassan Najjar, the executive director of Foothills Art Center in a press release. “The arts scene in Golden has never been stronger or more varied. We have street art, sculpture walks, traditional paintings, vibrant murals."

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Learn about GoFarm and their commitment to the supply and access to affordable, fresh, healthy, local food in Colorado. Two of the distribution sites will feature live cooking demonstrations and plein air artists at the Downtown Golden Location at the corner of 10th and Jackson Sts. from 3:30pm - 6:30pm and at the Centura Golden location at 750 Warner Dr. from 3:30pm - 6:00pm.

Public Art Commission Open House at Foothills Art Center

Miners Alley Playhouse Medley

An hour long taste of selections from several Miners Alley Playhouse shows including a preview of their popular ScriptProv program.

Aerialists and Art in the Garden

A high-flying night of aerialist action is promised in the Foothills Art Center Courtyard along with an exhibit of the works of art created during the Paint Out in the Park held earlier in the week with our Friday Open Studio group.

Public Art Tours

• 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Tours will start at the Visitors Center at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1p.m.

Foothills Art Centers members and invited guests will meet the artists from the the ARTSWEEK GOLDEN FESTIVAL as they officially kick-off the weekend.

Visit the Colorado School of Mines campus to shop artists from all over the country.

Parking can be found on any of the CSM parking lots and helpful signage will direct you to the lots and the entrance.
