A man was found dead inside a barricaded Conifer home after an overnight police standoff, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

CONIFER, CO -- A 37-year-old man was found dead inside home near Conifer after an overnight standoff with police where held his mother hostage for hours barricaded in the house, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

A man identified as the suspect's father, 76, called 911 just before 7 p.m. Monday night from a nearby convenience store near their home on the 12500 block of Highway 285, saying he and his wife were being abused by their son, who was armed. The father was able to escape, but the woman, age 69, was held hostage by her son for several hours, as police surrounded the home.

Around 11:30 p.m., the mother escaped from the home by climbing out a window, with police help. She was unharmed. Police stopped traffic along the busy highway Monday night.
