Elderly Man Still Missing In Golden, Possibly Endangered
James Mitchell, 87, of Arvada, is still missing after Golden police found his abandoned, bloody pickup crashed into a railcar Friday

GOLDEN, CO -- Golden Police are still searching for James Mitchell, 87, of Arvada, who was discovered missing Friday morning when Golden police found his abandoned, bloody pickup crashed into a railcar. Saturday, multiple agencies, including Golden, Fairmont and Pleasant View Fire Departments and Alpine Search and Rescue conducted a highly coordinated, extensive and meticulous search Mitchell. The search area encompassed several miles of paths and trails, rugged hillsides and residential areas, but no clue was found of the Arvada man.
Around 8:10 a.m., Friday, railroad workers at the depot in Golden notified Golden Police a pickup truck had crashed into one of the railcars sometime during the night. The truck was abandoned on scene with no sign of the driver. Blood was found inside the truck cab, according to a statement from the City of Golden.
Officers attempted to call the truck's owner, but no one answered. Arvada Police Department was asked to send an officer to the owner’s house and attempt contact, but they did not get an answer at the door.
After trying several other phone numbers, a Golden investigator was able to speak with the vehicle owner’s son who confirmed his father was missing.

Mitchell is 5’10” and weighs 180 pounds. He has blue eyes and thinning gray hair. He was last seen wearing a blue fleece vest, red plaid short-sleeved shirt, khaki cargo pants and black athletic shoes with Velcro closures. Mr. Mitchell possibly suffers from dementia and does not have any identification or a cell phone with him.
