Golden: School Of Mines Parking Garage Planned For W. Campus Rd.

The Golden City Council will vote Oct. 26 on a Colorado School of Mines 650-spot, 4-story parking structure.

GOLDEN, CO -- Golden traffic congestion on streets near Colorado School of Mines may ease up when students and staff have a brand new parking garage next year at the intersection of Maple Street and West Campus Drive. The Golden city council will vote at their Oct. 26 meeting on whether to take the Plan Commission's recommendation to approve the 650-spot, four-story parking structure.

The school has asked the city to open to vehicular traffic a currently closed block of 14th Street between Illinois and Maple Streets. The Planning Commission will recommend this change be approved.

The garage structure will be built into a natural hillside, so that two stories of parking are underground and it appears to be only two stories tall, when viewed from the southeast. The university submitted plans showing a brick and metal facade with glass staircases.
