JeffCo Extension Offers Golden Cottage Food Certification Class
A 4-hour class will give you a state certification to run a small home-based cottage food business from a home kitchen.

GOLDEN, CO -- Have you always dreamed of selling home-cooked baked goods or bottling your own secret-recipe barbecue sauce? The JeffCo Extension office of the Colorado State University Extension is offering a cottage food safety training class in Golden Nov. 13 that will provide a 3-year certification to meet the food safety training requirement for Colorado Cottage Foods Act. The class is established and supported by the Colorado State Dept. of Health & Environment.
JeffCo Extension offers an intense 3 1/2 to 4-hour food safety training where participants learn food safety guidelines and the specifics for operating a small home based cottage food business from a home kitchen. the cost is $40. Classes will be held at the JeffCo Extension office, 15200 W 6th Ave. in Golden from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The class will cover basics of proper hygiene; preventing cross contamination and cross-contact of food allergens; temperature control for safe food preparation, storage, transporting produce and sales, according to a class description. Students will also learn product ingredient labeling, packaging requirements, marketing, preparation at altitude and which products are allowed.

Participants who pass a test receive a laminated "CSU Extension Cottage Food Safety" certificate that is accepted throughout the state of Colorado.
