Food Bank of the Rockies marks National Food Bank Day amid rising hunger (kkco11news.com) — From its Grand Junction hub, Food Bank of the Rockies is marking National Food Bank Day while warning that hunger is rising across the Western Slope. Serving 13 counties and over 115 partners, the group notes one in seven Mesa County residents face food insecurity and invites locals to get involved through volunteering or support during Hunger Action Month.
3. Male Arrested for Soliciting Sex from a Minor (crimewatchpa.com) — A Clifton minor reported being solicited for sex near 32 ¼ Road and D Road, leading deputies to arrest 69-year-old Grand Junction resident Stanley Pavlacky on Thursday. Mesa County authorities say the victim clearly stated they were underage, yet the suspect allegedly persisted before leaving, and was later found at his Grand Junction home and booked into the county detention facility.
4. Mesa County highlights suicide prevention efforts for awareness month (kjct8.com) — Mesa County Public Health in Grand Junction is using Suicide Prevention Awareness Month to spotlight local resources like 988, Find the Right Fit, Grand Valley Connects, and Connected Care. A new county suicide report shows men remain at higher risk, youth make up many ER visits, but substance use at time of death is declining and students report stronger belonging, underscoring ongoing community healing efforts.
5. #GunnisonRiver anglers question feds' plan to reduce #BlueMesa Dam releases: Flows in Gunnison Gorge could drop as low as 200 cfs in effort to maintain #hydropower and rebuild storage — Heather Sacket (coyotegulch.blog) — Federal water managers meeting in Grand Junction plan to cut releases from Blue Mesa Reservoir to as low as 200 cubic feet per second this winter, a move critics say harms the Gunnison River fishery and recreation economy. While Trout Unlimited and outfitters push for at least 300 cfs to protect trout and guide businesses, irrigators argue they're already facing severe shortages and must keep senior water rights whole.
