Good morning, Lakewood! Hooray it's Friday! Hope you've had a great week! What are you doing this weekend as the summer winds down? If you're like me, there's a bumper crop of ripe tomatoes on the vine in the garden, so here's 44 ideas to use them and not get tomato burnout!

Friday's weather: Still cool, and not as hot as it has been. High: 85 Low: 59.

Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Time for a Fresh Start: 50 people had their warrants cleared last week at the first ever Fresh Start event hosted by the First Judicial District. Those fifty may only seem like like a drop in the bucket (there's more than 24,000 outstanding warrants). However, the anticipated benefits of the program is to make the community safer, help folks dogged by minor offenses get their lives back on track and save taxpayer dollars – which on a single day, is estimated to have saved some $37,000.00 in court and legal fees. (Jeffco)
  2. Cider Days Festival Returns for its 45th Year! If you've never been to Lakewood's Cider Days, you're in for a real treat at this family friendly event. Of course there'll be plenty of cider and beer, but there's also a tractor pull, apple pie eating contests, trick pigs. Kids activities include a straw bale maze, train and burro rides. (Patch)
  3. Rocky Mountain Airport plan runs into headwinds. Neighbors who regularly complain about noise pollution are opposed to the plan to add more planes and bigger planes that use the regional airport. (Jeffco Transcript)
  4. Historic Lakewood "gem" hits the market. The most expensive home listing in Lakewood, also dubbed a 'historic gem' by the listing agent; this the seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom home is on the market for a mere $3.69 million. (Patch)
