Coronavirus Update In Lakewood: 64 New Cases Reported

Here's the latest news and a breakdown of new coronavirus cases in Lakewood.

LAKEWOOD, CO — Over the past two weeks, 64 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Lakewood, according to Jefferson County Public Health data. As of Monday, there have been 978 cases in Lakewood since the outbreak began.

The rate of infection per 1,000 residents in Lakewood is 6.25, the data shows. The number of weekly reported cases has been declining in the city.

There have been 2,684 cases and 209 deaths in Jefferson County since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Over the past week, more than 140 new cases have been reported in the county.

Around 2,328 people have recovered in Jeffco and 17 people were hospitalized as of Monday.

The rate of deaths in Jefferson County has been steadily declining in May and June, the data shows.

Under the new statewide Safer at Home: New Guidelines phase, counties that have seen a downward trend of cases and that prove they have a solid plan for combating the virus can apply to expand some services.

New guidelines:

  • Indoor events (conferences, receptions, museums) can begin to open
  • Outdoor events (concerts, fairs rodeos, receptions) can also begin to open
  • Residential overnight summer camps will be able to open with 10 kids together indoors and 25 kids outdoors
  • Bars will be able to open at 25 percent or up to 50 people
  • Personal services will be able to expand to include things such as facials, beard trimming, lip waxing, etc.
  • Non-critical manufacturing facilities can expand their in-person workforce

Denver, Arapahoe and Weld counties consistently have the highest overall number of cases in the state; however over the past two weeks, Weld, Summit and Adams counties have had the highest case rates per 100,000 people.

Since Thursday, 715 new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Colorado, according to public health data. As of Monday, 33,511 people had been infected with the coronavirus in the state among 320,997 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Around 5,442 people have been hospitalized, and the death toll among people who tested positive for COVID-19 has reached 1,682.
