Coronavirus Update In Lakewood: 938 Cases Confirmed

LAKEWOOD, CO — As of Tuesday, 938 people have been infected with the new coronavirus in Lakewood since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. There have been 2,266 cases and 172 deaths in Jefferson County.

Around 35 percent of Jeffco cases are in Lakewood, according to Jefferson County Public Health.

Number of Jeffco cases in surrounding municipalities, as of Tuesday:

• Arvada (Jeffco count only): 567 cases
• Westminster: 97 cases
• Golden: 217 cases
• Edgewater: 45 cases

Around 41 percent of the people who've been infected in the county likely contracted the virus in the community, but it remains unclear how they were infected, data show. Around 34 percent were infected by "known exposure to a COVID-19 case" — usually a family member, Jeffco public health officials said. Fewer than 2 percent of Jeffco cases were linked to recent travel, and around 25 percent of cases remain under investigation.

Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order Monday that transitions from the safer-at-home guidelines to'Safer at Home and in the Vast, Great Outdoors.' The new order will be in effect until July 1.

Previously, high-risk Coloradans, those above 65 or with underlying health conditions, were required to stay home unless absolutely necessary. Under the modified order, they are encouraged to enjoy nature while following social distancing guidelines.

Anyone who attended a protest in Colorado is asked to take a free coronavirus test within seven days, Polis said. He encouraged people to get tested at Pepsi Center in Denver. Access to the drive-up testing is being expanded to anyone who's been potentially exposed to the virus and those heading back to work under the state's new public safety guidelines.

Denver, Arapahoe and Weld counties consistently have the highest overall number of cases in the state; however, Morgan, Logan and Crowley counties consistently have the highest case rates per 100,000 people.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 26,788 people have been infected with the new coronavirus in Colorado among 190,700 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Around 4,419 people have been hospitalized, and the death toll among people who tested positive for COVID-19 has reached 1,474.
