From my notebook:

  • Seat belts saves lives. Believe it or not, failing to buckle up was a contributing factor of the almost 43,000 people who died nationally in crashes in 2021. That's equal to the entire population of Brighton, CO dying in one year. Many of these deaths are avoidable. (NHTSA)
  • Lakewood's Historic Preservation Commission invites all residents to join a self-guided scavenger hunt virtually or in person during May to search for unique architectural elements and historic structures found at Washington Heights Arts Center and O'Kane Park! Those that submit their completed scavenger hunt form will be entered to win prizes. (Lakewood)
  • Jeffco's Hiwan Museum will be closed today due to inclement weather. (Jeffco)
  • What to do if you find dead birds in a Lakewood park. Colorado Parks and Wildlife has received a positive test for highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly called the bird flu, in dead goslings in Cottonwood Park, 10461 W. Evans Avenue, in Lakewood. The Avian flu is spreading among wild birds and domesticated poultry in Colorado. In an effort to alert park users, Lakewood has put up signs alerting community members not to touch sick or deceased geese. Please call 303-980-7300 for an animal control officer or park ranger, if you find dead wildlife in Lakewood. (CDPHE)
