Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:
- The City of Louisville moves to ban new gas stations and has a plan to make it permanent. Last Tuesday, without any fanfare, the Louisville Town Council voted 5-2 on an emergency ordinance that put in place a temporary moratorium for any new gas stations. There's also a petition being circulated that would make the ban permanent. This comes just as Lakewood is getting two new stations on West Colfax. (Complete CO)
- Brittany Pettersen wins a U.S. House of Representative seat for Colorado's 7th District. State Senator Pettersen is headed to Washington, D.C. and will assume the seat long held by Rep. Ed Permutter. Pettersen's solid 59 percent of the vote reported early last night cemented her role as Colorado's newest U.S. Representative. (CO Sun)
- Lakewood apartment fire murder suspects are just 12 and 14 years old. Allegedly the two boys had been living illegally at the Tiffany Square apartments, but were evicted, and that's when they returned to settle the score. Surveillance shows the two boys setting the complex on fire with a Molotov cocktail, and then returning later to stoke the fire. (FOX31)
- It's official. Magic Mushrooms are legal in Colorado. Ten years ago, weed was legalized, now Colorado is second state in the U.S. to legalize the use of psilocybin mushrooms. Proposition 122 received 51 percent of the statewide vote. (CO Sun)
- There really is a free lunch. Well, at least if you're a school-aged student. It appears that Colorado voters have passed Proposition FF, which will provide free meals at school to each and every public school student across the state. (CPR)
