Free Tax Help For Low-Income Families At Red Rocks CC, Lakewood

From Red Rocks Community College: This tax season, Red Rocks Community College is partnering with Denver-based Piton Foundation to help hard-working families become more financially secure by providing free tax preparation services through the Tax Help Colorado program. Beginning February 3, IRS-certified Red Rocks Community College students will prepare and file tax returns free of charge for individuals with household incomes of less than about $54,000 a year.

In addition to getting their taxes done for free, taxpayers may be eligible for valuable, refundable tax credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit. Tax preparers are trained to ensure the families they serve get the best refund possible. The program also helps Red Rocks Community College students develop customer service skills, achieve practical, hands-on experience, serve their community and earn college credits.

This free service will be offered at Red Rocks Community College on Saturdays from February 3 through March 17 from 9 am to 3 pm at the college’s Lakewood campus: 13300 West Sixth Avenue, room 1103. Parking is free.

Tax Help Colorado operates 24 free tax sites statewide; last year, they provided free tax assistance to over 8,750 individuals, helping them claim nearly $14 million in tax refunds, including nearly $5 million from the EITC. In addition, the program saved families more than $2.2 million in commercial tax preparation fees.
