Jeffco COVID-19 Surging + Where's That Water Coming From?
The Lakewood Daily provides you with news and events to keep you informed about what's happening in Lakewood!

Happy Thursday, people of Lakewood! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening around Lakewood today.
Thursday's weather: Cloudy most of the day and a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. High: 87, low: 59.
Here are the top stories in Lakewood today:
- Jefferson County COVID-19 Surge: 878 cases were reported between Aug. 16-22, 2021. That's nearly triple the number for the same period in July 2021. Most of the cases have been attributed to the highly transmissible delta variant. Jeffco School District is concerned that the variant surges will hit school-aged children as they return to full-time learning. (Patch)
- Lakewood City Council woman Anita Springsteen is involved in yet another lawsuit against the city that she represents on city council. Springsteen is the lawyer for an individual that claims the LPD police harassed him during an altercation with a tow truck driver – it still isn't clear if her client is the perpetrator, or the victim. Trial was set for this week but has been postponed. (Chronicle)
- Denver Metro real estate roller coaster: Looks like there's now more housing inventory, which means more options for buyers, but the Metro Denver housing market is still hot – one real estate agent indicated that "the feeding frenzy has certainly calmed down," which if you've been trying to buy a house, is good news. (Denver7)
- Armed Robbery: A gas station attendant was robbed at gun point in Littleton last Thursday, Aug. 19, near Simms and West Ken Caryl Avenue. The two gunmen entered the Valero convenience store, where they pointed a gun at the employee and grabbed some stuff off the counter and fled – no suspects have been identified yet. - Where's all that water coming from? A study by Colorado State University (CSU) has discovered that nearly 80 percent of the water filling creeks and streams this time of year in the Denver Metro Area is coming from people watering their lawns! (Colorado Sun)
