Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Jeffco School District's faculty and staff will have to reapply for new jobs. The school district is proposing to close nearly 16 elementary schools across the district. More than 400 teachers and staff that work at the the elementary schools slated for closure, will have to reapply for new jobs, if they plan to stay in the district. (CO Sun)
  2. The first indoor slide park lands in Lakewood. Slick City Action Park is a new slide that opened in Lakewood this past June. Facilities include numerous slides, including some that are a few stories high, and an inflatable basketball court. (7News)
  3. No more pesticides in parks. Lakewood-based grocery chain Natural Grocers is leading the charge by sponsoring fundraisers that stop harmful pesticides from being used in public parks. (Nutraingredients)
  4. Western states should lead the charge on Colorado River issues. During U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit this week to Colorado, she stressed that the U.S Congress is looking for the watershed states to lead the way. (CPR)
  5. Bonfils-Stantion Foundation has provided more than $2.2 million arts grants so far this year. The arts funding has been a vital part of arts-oriented organizations rebounding from the pandemic. (Denverite)
