Under the state's new coronavirus dial, Jefferson County is in 'Level 2: Concern,' however a recent spike in cases has put the county under threat of shifting to Level 3, which would place residents and businesses under increased restrictions.
Investigations have revealed that many residents were infected with the virus at private gatherings, backyard parties and college campus gatherings, according to Jefferson County Public Health.
In order to move into the less-restrictive Level 1 - 'Cautious', the county needs to meet and sustain three metrics for two weeks:
- New cases: How much the virus is circulating in a county
- Percent positivity: Whether there is sufficient COVID-19 testing to capture the level of virus transmission
- Impact on hospitalizations: Whether hospitalizations are increasing, stable or declining
"As a community, we have the power to choose our next steps in the COVID-19 recovery process," Jeffco public health officials said in a statement.
"If we all stay focused on our individual behaviors and follow the "three Ws" — wear a mask, watch your distance and wash your hands — we can move closer to getting back to normal. We've curbed spikes in cases before, and we can do it again!"
