JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office issued a heartfelt tribute Friday in remembrance of Sergeant Sean Renfro, who was killed on Jan. 3, 2015, while assisting with a traffic accident in a snowstorm on Highway 285. He was off duty when he stopped to help, and when he stepped outside his vehicle, a driver coming from the opposite direction spun out of control, crossed the median, and struck Renfro.

"Five years ago today we lost a brother, a friend, a dedicated sergeant, and a man who spent every day trying to make Jefferson County a better place," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

"Every deputy signs up for this challenging job in public safety knowing one day he or she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice for their community. Therefore, it is imperative we take the time to remember those individuals who have given their lives in service, so that they are never forgotten."
