Lakewood Couple Rescued Near Jasper Lake
Crews spent more than seven hours rescuing a couple that had become "disoriented" while hiking, officials said.

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — A couple was rescued near Jasper Lake in Boulder County Tuesday night, officials said. The pair called the Boulder County Sheriff's Office for help around 7:30 p.m.
The couple "became disoriented and were not prepared for the changing evening weather," officials said. They had started their hike around 8 a.m., with the intent of walking from the Fourth of July Campground down the Fourth of July Road to Hessie and then hiking along the King Lake/Diamond Lake Trail back to the campground.
The sheriff's office told the hikers to stay where they were — near Jasper Lake — until rescuers arrived.

Hikers, climbers and bicyclists have been heading into the mountains in record numbers amid the coronavirus outbreak, Boulder County officials said. The surge of visitors has led to an increased number of search and rescue calls.
"Please help our search and rescue teams, most of which are volunteers, by doing some homework before you head to the great outdoors," the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said in a news release in late June.
The sheriff's office released the following guidelines for people to follow before heading out.
