Lakewood Creates Coronavirus Grant Program For Nonprofits
The City of Lakewood is using $375,000 of its federal funding to help nonprofits that are helping residents amid the coronavirus pandemic.
LAKEWOOD, CO — Lakewood will be awarding $375,000 from the federal coronavirus rescue package to local nonprofits through a grant program that city council approved Monday.
Organizations that serve Lakewood residents are eligible to apply for the COVID-19 Nonprofit Impact Grant program, but funds must be spent on goods or services that offer relief to Lakewood residents from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, city officials said. Personnel costs are not eligible for the program.
“Our nonprofit organizations are on the front lines of trying to help Lakewood residents who are struggling because of the COVID-19 crisis, and the CARES Act is designed to get funds to these groups directly helping residents,” Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul said in a statement. “This emergency grant program will do that and provide as much relief as we can to our residents.”

City council will consider a second round of grants in the coming months based on the level of need demonstrated through this application process, officials said.
The city is funding the grants from its share of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, which is the $2.2 trillion federal relief bill passed earlier this year.
