The festivities include free photos with Santa, vintage tractor hay wagon rides, a choir performance and a light display.

LAKEWOOD, CO — Lakewood is kicking off the holiday season this weekend with lights, music and merriment. The city's annual free celebration, Lakewood Lights, will be held on Friday and Saturday. The festivities will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on both nights at Lakewood Heritage Center, 801 S. Yarrow St.

Green Mountain High School's Shadows of the Mountain Choir will be performing at the Mayor's Tree Lighting ceremony at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.

On both nights, the Heritage Center will be glowing with a light display. Fifteen historic buildings will be decorated for the occasion, eight of which will be open to the public and feature holiday activities. The festivities also include free photos with Santa, hay wagon rides pulled by a vintage tractor, holiday crafts, dreidel and gelt and live entertainment.

Community members are also invited to vote on their favorite festive lamp post decorated by local groups and organizations.

Hot cocoa and cookies will be available for free, with a suggested $1 donation, at the 1940s diner. Roasted chestnuts will be offered in the 1930s farmhouse.

The visitor center is also offering "unique and retro" holiday gifts in the 20th Century Emporium.
