Lakewood Police Release 'Don't Get Grinched' Video

Lakewood police are using a hilarious video to catch residents' attention and offer porch pirate safety tips.

LAKEWOOD, CO — The Lakewood Police Department has released a funny video starring two officers and the "mean one" himself — Mr. Grinch. The video warns residents about package thefts and offers tips for safeguarding gifts.

Over the holidays, officers are often called to "crimes of opportunity," such as burglaries, package thefts and vehicle thefts, the department said.

The video shows Mr. Grinch sneaking up to a home and stealing an Amazon package. Fortunately, he gets caught and arrested by two police officers.

Lakewood police are offering the following tips to prevent package thefts:

  • Ensure that dark areas and entrances have outdoor lights that are turned on after dark or are activated by sensors.
  • Install security cameras.
  • Have packages delivered to your workplace if possible.
  • Request a mail hold when you're out of town.
  • Sign up for tracking alerts on all online orders.
  • Purchase a device known as a smart lock that uses a camera to monitor your front porch if you won't be home when packages are delivered.

The Lakewood Police Department has also released a list of general holiday safety tips.
