Lakewood Police Seek Entry-Level Applications For July Academy

LAKEWOOD, CO -- The Lakewood Police Dept. is seeking new recruits and lateral agents for positions on the police force. The police academy class for new recruits will be held in July, 2018. The Lakewood Police Dept. prides itself on the fact the more than 70 police chiefs and sheriffs got their start in the department. Lakewood now has a police department with 400 employees, but the city is hiring more.

"I’m excited about our new recruitment efforts. We are looking for the best and the brightest to join our team and serve our residents at the highest level," said Chief Daniel McCasky in a statement. The chief recommended anyone interested in an entry level job participate in a Ride-along with an Agent.

Police officer salaries start at $57,283.20 annually and rise to $85,363.20 after five years.

To qualify as a Police Agent Recruit you must meet the following requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age, and
• Have obtained a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline from a nationally accredited university by July 1, 2018.

Other State requirements for Police Officers in Colorado, including Lakewood Police Lateral Agents include:

• No felony convictions.
• No convictions of misdemeanor crimes that would affect your ability to certify with the Colorado Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board. Visit the POST website at https://coloradopost.gov/node/556 for a list of misdemeanors that will preclude police officer certification. Generally, traffic violations do not fall under these restrictions; however, you must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license by the date of hire.

To apply as a Lateral Police Officer, you must meet the above listed criteria and the following:

• Possess an active Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification or an active state equivalent,
• not currently under Internal Affairs investigation for any reason,
• a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a POST certified full-time law enforcement officer in a policing environment similar to that found in most urban and suburban setting.
