Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:
- City of Lakewood pumps brakes on AirBNB ordinance: According to Lakewood Mayor Adam Paul, "There have been so many amendments that have been made that the community hasn't had a chance to weigh in on." The ordinance now heads to the Housing Policy Commission for further consideration before the full council votes on it. (Biz Den)
- Fall middle school sports in Lakewood cancelled: Due in part to the Aug. 28 Jeffco-amended COVID-19 advisory, the City of Lakewood announced (via email) that all middle-school sports programs (including flag football and cross country) at Dunstan, Creighton, and Carmody would be cancelled for the fall season. The safety of the students and and staff was paramount in making the decision to suspend the fall leagues. (Lakewood)
- Officer-involved shooting: The Jefferson County Sheriff is investigating an officer-involved shooting at the off ramp to Sheridan Boulevard and I-76 on Thursday afternoon. (FOX31)
- Peak to Plains trail officially opens: The newest section of the trail built by Jeffco Open space has officially opened to the public. The trail will eventually stretch some 65 miles from Loveland Pass to downtown Denver. (Jeffco Transcript)
- Lakewood's rent rates are in the top tier for the cost of a one-bedroom apartment in metro Denver, according to one study. This is a good thing if you're a landlord, not so good news if you're a renter. (Zumper)
