Lakewood Schools 'Lockout' Caused By Nearby Knife Incidents
A stabbing at a hotel and a search for a mentally ill woman, led Lakewood cops to activate school emergency procedures.

LAKEWOOD, CO -- Lakewood schools near areas where police were summoned put temporary "Lockout" procedures into place Monday, Jefferson Co. Public Schools tweeted Monday afternoon. A stabbing at a hotel around 12:30 p.m. near Lakewood High School, 9700 W 8th Ave. led to officers telling the school to go on a soft lockdown where entry and exit to and from the school would possibly be restricted, according to Lakewood PD Asst. Public Information Officer Agent Rob Albrets. Another incident around 11:30 a.m. involved police searching for a possibly armed, possibly mentally ill woman who was reported to be walking in the street near Rooney Ranch Elementary School, 2200 S Coors St.
"There was a report of a female walking on foot in the area, possibly suicidal and possibly armed with a pocket knife," Albrets said. "No woman was found [by police]," he added. Albrets said the two incidents were not related. The lockout at Rooney Ranch lasted about an hour.
In the hotel incident, the stabbing victim was taken to a hospital, Albrets said. The school district tweeted the all-clear about an hour later.
